I wanted to put together a blog post specifically for holiday gifts, but also wanted to make it a little more personal in regards to recommending products I have owned or used so I know they are really worth it. I feel like Christmas is one of the hardest and best holidays. I love finding and giving unique gifts to friends and family, but I hate giving a gift to someone with the after thought of “the gift receipt is inside in case you don’t like it.” I know it happens – but love to avoid it! So below are some great items I’ve purchased myself in recent months that I love — and hopefully might give you some guidance for your own friends and family!

Skincare – Colleen Rothschild

Now that I’m in my mid-30’s, I’ve really started to take better care of my skin. For years I have used a cleanser + moisturizer in the morning, a face wipe at night, and called it a day!  I’ve since developed age or sun spots and have realized the importance of taking care of my skin now so I don’t regret it in 20 years. I’ve always had sensitive skin and have to be really careful with products otherwise my face turns red and swells, so I’m pretty picky with what brands and products I use.  Cassie from Hi Sugarplum! (if you don’t follow her – you should! She’s amazing!) introduced Colleen Rothschild on her blog awhile back and now I’m hooked! Colleen’s products are light, smell good, and have really improved the look and feel of my skin.  My mainstay products are a pH balanced gel cleanser, renewal cream, Vitamin C treatment, and also her lip balm. I linked a few products below that are carried at Neiman Marcus, but really recommend checking out her website (here) – everyday I’ve seen great deals! If you know someone looking for a better skincare treatment versus drugstore brands, I would really recommend giving Colleen a try – even just the cleanser & moisturizer!

For Him

Husbands are sometimes the hardest to buy for! Below are a few items that both my husband and I get a ton of use out of. First, the Apple Watch. Literally a gadget that I’m not sure I could function well without. Sad, huh? Between emails, texts, the weather, time, I use it for everything. I have the Apple Watch 2 (now there is version 3 released), and I wouldn’t recommend any older then the 2nd version. The reason being is the older watches do not allow GPS without carrying your phone along. I used to have the original Apple Watch before upgrading last year and I had to run with my phone every time to get accurate distance – it was incredibly annoying!  Now I can run phone-free, and that leads me to the earphones also – they sync your iTunes right to your watch!

I love the Beats earphones. They don’t hurt my ears like the original Apple Ear pods, and stay put while running. You can adjust volume, pause music, and skip songs all right on the earphone wires (or use your watch). I use the Nike Running Club app on my watch to train for races, and don’t have issues playing music and using the GPS in the Nike app at the same time.

Lastly, I purchased these UGG slippers for my husband’s birthday a few months ago and he wears them at home all the time. I think he literally runs and finds them the second he walks through the door and takes his shoes off. Mine are an old J.Crew Factory version, so I can’t account for the comfort level of his Uggs, but I’m pretty sure his obsession level with them means they are like little feet clouds. 🙂

For Her – Running Friends

Since taking up running again a few months ago, I’ve learned a ton about what’s good and bad for the runner – so many new gadgets out since I ran in my 20s!  I’m no expert, but I’ve certainly found out what works for me and can make a few recommendations.

I haven’t run hard until recently down in Florida and had no idea the intensity of the heat & humidity until I started adding on the miles this past summer (I’m from Indiana where you normally just freeze to death lol).  I learned a lot about the dew point and staying hydrated. For long runs, I have to either carry a water bottle or make sure I run near my house to stop for water/electrolyte breaks. It’s important to consume 5-12 oz of liquid every 20 minutes if you are running for more than an hour in the heat. There are so many water bottle options out there to choose from, but I really like this Nike water bottle that has an easy hand strap, pocket for your cell phone, and holds 22 ounces of liquid.

The next thing I’ve come to love and appreciate are socks. Something so simple, but can be really important. I’ve really come to love Feetures brand running sock. They have 3 levels of cushioning (I run in the Elite Light – middle level), and provide different levels of cushioning on different parts of your feet to prevent blisters from forming. They also have right and left socks for your feet with extra contouring and therefore extra protection.

Clothes are harder to buy as a gift, but my favorite running shorts are the Nike Crew and Old Navy Semi-Fitted running shorts.

For Her – Favorite Accessories

One of my favorite (& affordable) handbag brands is Sole Society.  They have a huge variety from clutches to crossbody bags to satchels and also duffel bags. Tons of colors and also trendy textures like velvet and embroidered bags. Most (if not all) of their bags are faux or vegan leather, and the quality is still really good. So you’re saving money and saving the world. 🙂

Another favorite that should be no secret is BaubleBar! I’m pretty sure 75% of my jewelry is now from this brand. Their earrings are lightweight and always fun. You can find pieces in about every color under the rainbow and between their earrings and necklaces, they can make an otherwise boring outfit fun and cheery!
And lastly, if you need an under $20 gift for a co-worker and want to keep it simple, a fun coffee mug is a really easy gift that you can then customize with extra goodies from there! I figure if you don’t know if they drink coffee or not, they can always use it for soup or to drink any liquid really. We are doing a secret Santa at my workplace this year and I drew a co-worker who is new to our store and I know very little about. I noticed the other day she was wearing pretty stud earrings, so I purchased a pair of Kate Spade earrings and am going to fill a cute coffee mug with assorted holiday candy with the earrings on top. A cute and easy gift!
I hope these ideas help a little! The holidays can be stressful, but if you put thought into your gifts regardless of the price, they should always come out a hit. 🙂
