Work Outfit: Jewel Tones

Today’s work outfit is a little business and a little holiday fun. Around this time of year the reds and greens start to take over the stores as we prepare for the upcoming holidays. I’m always been a huge fan of jewel tones (rich greens, blues, and reds like maroon), and when I put this outfit together it was all because of the necklace.

I was drawn into the color tones – it matches the blue clutch and green skirt perfectly, and then has touches of rose gold and a blush pink to off-set the bold colors. I love it!

How do you guys create an outfit? Sometimes I start with the jewelry or shoes like today’s outfit, and sometimes it’s the top or maybe a printed pair of pants. I know the golden rule used to be “always dress around a great pair of shoes” – but since my shoes are more sensible then fun, I choose the jewelry side more often instead! And sometimes… I just throw on whatever the hell I want, look in the mirror, and say “Ya. That should do it.” 😆 and call it a day!

Holiday Party

Hi everyone! So I took little extra time off from blogging last week – it was my husband’s birthday and we enjoyed just spending time together. We hung out near the coast (we live about 10 minutes inland) and at parks, with our horses, ate way too much lol! And it was actually really nice to just take a step away from social media for the week. I headed back to work on Saturday, so on Thursday I sat down and started to think about the blog again. I’ve been talking about taking some real outfit photos for awhile – and so we did!

Todays’ outfit is actually a “flatlay come to life” from a couple weeks ago. I still love this pretty peplum top. It’s definitely lightweight – so perfect for Florida, or throw a cardigan on over top if you’re up north. I would love to style it like that and with booties once we get a little chillier weather down here. That being said – I saw my breath this morning on my run! Woo hoo! The crisp fall air was so refreshing!

The “V” part of the top is a little low cut – I threw on a camisole underneath. I picked up this $8 camisole from Target.

I sized down on the peplum top. As you can see from the above photo it’s a little flowy. I’m wearing an XS and normally I’m a true size small.

I called this outfit “holiday party” because truly I can see this being a fun, affordable outfit for an office party or party with friends this holiday season!

Also – if red isn’t your thing, this top comes in 3 other prints!

Deal of the Day:

I’ve always loved this bag. It’s been around for the last couple years and everytime I see a blogger carry it I regret not purchasing it. I already have a white Rebecca Minkoff bag in my closet so I’ve always passed on it, but now it’s 50% off and only $25! Might be time to bite the bullet. And it’s ivory, not white, so that’s justified right? 🙂

Comfy Transition Sweater:

Love, love the casual comfy over-sized look of this sweater!  It has a v-neck in the front & back with a criss-cross pattern in the front. I felt comfortable wearing just my regular bra underneath, but would look really cute with a bralette also! The material is just a stretchy cotton and no wool, so just perfect for cool days in the 60/70s. The sleeves are longer and meant to push up for a casual look. I purchased my regular size.

These mules are the best! Of the few items I purchased during the #NSale (don’t get me started ha!), these were definitely worth it! The studded version seems to be a Nordstrom exclusive, but there is a plain version available also at both Nordstrom and Steve Madden. I really like the light grey color. Fits tts. And although I’m craving cooler weather so bad in in this Florida heat, these mules work in all of our seasons!

Transition Through Seasons

Guys, I go through this twice a year. That time of year where I’m so sick of all the pinks and greens and brights colors because they’ve been so prominent in fashion since February, and ready for fall colors even though it’s 562 degrees outside. I go through this same transition/blah/bored with clothes period in January (when I’m craving all things spring!) and in July when I’m craving all things fall (however jokes on me because we don’t get a fall in Florida haha!). I go from one day loving dark classic pieces to the next wanting my bright colors again.  The only fun part of this period in July is the Nordstrom Sale hitting stores next week ha!

I saw these nautical pants in store a couple weeks ago and fell in love with them! They are slightly high waisted, zip on the side, and very streamlined. I do recommend going up one size – I could get my regular size zipped, but uncomfortably lol. I returned for a size larger and so happy I did! I paired them here with this easy swing tank, but I’ve tried them on with a classic short sleeve sweater, and also a front tuck tank and both are so fun! These are definitely staple work pants.

So here is my idea of a fall transition outfit. Still summery in texture, but screaming fall and classic with the dark colors. Tomorrow I will be back to all things pink. 🙂

Tropic Like It’s Hot

Have ya’ll noticed big floral tropical prints are hitting stores everywhere?! I don’t like to spend a ton of money on printed shirts/skirts because I usually want the “next best thing” in prints after I blink a few times (lol), but couldn’t resist picking up a couple of color options in the tank shown below! On sale for ~$16 and super easy to pair with just about anything! I was instantly drawn to the coral color (shown here) and the green/white floral print.

The name for today’s blog post came from a style challenge on Instagram I’m a co-host for ~ I’ve never been invited to help host one so it’s been a new and fun experience! The hashtag for the Instagram challenge is #FashionFateJune and the prompts are weekly (versus daily). This week’s challenge is ‘tropic like its hot’ (such a fun name!) and thought this top suited about perfectly for this week! If you want to start joining in for the remainder of the month, you can find the style challenge prompts on my Instagram page and you post a weekly or daily picture with the #FashionFateJune hashtag and you’re in! Easy peasy. 🙂

Pom Poms & Beads

You guys have seen this top in previous flatlays, but I don’t think I’ve worn it on the blog yet – so here it is! It’s such a cute design with the pom-poms and square neck. It fits well into a skirt also as long as the waistband isn’t overly tight. I really wanted this top to work out with the striped skirt I featured in a flatlay awhile back, but it crinkled funny at the waist. So I’d say best with shorts or pants, but would work with a pencil skirt for work without an elastic waist. Either way – this marigold color is still going strong this season and I’m loving it! 💛

Hope you all are having a good week so far!

Linen Tie Waist Pants

Did my best with this photo considering our day of clouds & rain continues!  aka Groundhog day! I just couldn’t wait to share these pants and top on the blog – I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone here. I walked into LOFT over Memorial Day weekend thinking I’d find a ton of floral tees, shorts, and anything bright and colorful (typical, right? LOL)… and I walked out with just this tee and pants! I was instantly drawn to the tie waist, linen blend material, and loose cropped length. They are completely different from my normal Sloan skinny or Marisa fit pants that usually rule my closet for work. I sized down one since linen material usually relaxes throughout the day, but I think my regular size would have worked fine also. My bag is really old – do you remember this style from Target a few years ago? Still a classic for how affordable it was!

Seasons of Lemons:

Has anyone else noticed that it feels like lemons 🍋 are the seasonal print/hot graphic this spring? I mean, who doesn’t love lemonade?.. or a lemon shake up?! Ahhh, craving one now! I even noticed outdoor wreaths this season seem to have a lemon decor trend.

I hope you all had a great weekend! I finally had a few days off work, but the rainy stormy weather continues in southwest Florida. I swear it feels like groundhog day around here! You don’t realize how addicted you are to the sunshine til you don’t have it for several days at a time!
