Casual Look: Linen Tee + Button-Fly Jeans

Ahh, the wind. The only morning I had to take a few photos was of course a day before storms and rain blew in along with 25 mph winds. So, this top is not really this wrinkled nor fits stuck to your body in the front, that would be the wind! Lol. These were the best photo of the bunch. I saw a catalog photo (not even sure which advertiser!) featuring a top in a similar color to this one with leopard accessories and knew I had to try it out! I thought it really added fun detail! I’m excited to try it again using a different color scheme (leopard and olive perhaps?).

And I love, love that I found a pair of button-fly jeans in a light wash that are affordable! I’m afraid this trend won’t last forever, so I didn’t want to spend a ton to buy them, and thankfully Old Navy to the rescue! I have collected quite a few of Old Navy denim in my closet the last few years and I’m honestly pretty impressed. I have $250 jeans in my closet and $25 jeans LOL, and somedays I truly can’t tell a difference. I wear whichever pair based on the look I’m going for and these are definitely going to be a summer go-to pair!

Casual Look: Scallop Top

I love that kelly green is such a hot color this spring! My exact top in green is old (still available in red and white here), but still so many pretty options out there ~ I linked my favorites below! I’ve seen this color of green paired mostly with blues, pinks, and yellows. I decided to pair it here with a smattering of blues from my navy blue necklace to light blue bag, but would easily switch any of my accessories out for pink also! I actually went home after this blog post, put on a light blue denim wash, pink necklace, and cognac flats and went to work. I liked the look just as much!

Casual Look: Black Romper

Rompers are always a spring & summer favorite. And for me they are hit or miss. I think I fit into that category of being too short or too tall for certain clothing items (in my case too short lol). However, I finally found one that I really like! And from Old Navy no less! Not only does this one fit me darn near perfect, it comes in both petite & tall sizes! I went with regular sizing since I didn’t want the bottom half to be too short, but I think petite would have worked also (maybe a little better). I styled the romper here for our spring weather (breezy and on the cool side), but I plan to wear it this summer with sandals and sans jacket!

Right now the romper is on sale for $26 + an extra 30% off! And as always free shipping with any of the GAP family cards. The romper also comes in 2 printed floral patterns, which are on sale for $22 + extra discount! I love the ‘black ditsy floral’ pattern also.

size tip: I’m wearing a size small in the romper which is my normal size. Jacket is a size small-petite.

Tie Knot Tee

Can we talk about this cute tie knot tee?! A new arrival from Nordstrom, and right up my alley! Perfect for weekends and if I’m feeling extra casual at work, this is my kind of tee. I was instantly drawn into the pink and blue color options (5 colors total), but really need white tees in my closet that will pair with everything, so I went with the boring color. 😝 The material is ‘marled’ and somewhat transparent in the white color. I was worried the white would be see thru, but with a nude bra it’s totally fine. I imagine that other color options are less transparent.

And I finally (6 months later…) found a pair of olive skinnies that I love! And from Old Navy to boot! If you remember my debacle from last fall, I found a pair of burgundy jeans for fall from Express that I loved… but the olive color in the same jeans was ehh. I passed. And ever since then I’ve tried various brands with little success. I mean, better late then never, right? ☺️

Casual Wedding Outfit

I recently attended an outdoor wedding in downtown Sarasota. The dress-code was ‘dressy casual’, so no formal dress, no jeans, but anything in between. It was a small wedding and most of the guests were people I know through the horse-world, so I knew I wanted to wear a dress, but also keep it a little down to earth. Since a lace dress was out, my goal was to find a dress that I could keep in my closet for ‘everyday’ type use.

I ended up choosing this gingham dress. At $88, I felt like the price point was fair for a nice dress that wasn’t over the top (before I knew the dress code for the wedding, I really wanted to wear an Eliza J dress like this one here – I love this for a dressy wedding!). The color and print spoke casual, but the ruffles felt more feminine. I made sure to add some color with my statement earrings and favorite summer clutch, because ya’ll know I can’t get dressed without some color!

Sizing: I’m wearing a size medium. I ordered this size based on the sizing recommendations for the BB Dakota brand, but I feel like the dress runs a little big. I’m a normal dress size 6, and I think a 4 would have fit a little better. If you’re in between sizes, I would say go down one size. The care tag also says to dry clean. I washed on delicate cycle, air dried, and steamed the dress and it came out just like new (and it didn’t shrink at all to my disappointment lol).

Casual Look: Button Back Top

I found a top that gives all the posh, suave, classy, date-night feels! I wore this exact outfit to a casual dinner the other night and felt like all of those adjectives listed previously – and comfortable! This tunic is made by a new brand (to me) from Nordstrom called ‘All In Favor’. At first I thought maybe they had re-branded the Lush line, but neither one are a made-for- Nordstrom brand, just a line they happen to carry. Both brands are very similar to one another. You might remember a drape front blouse I had featured on the blog months ago. It is made by this same brand (All In Favor) and still a closet favorite for work.

The material is 100% rayon, so it does wrinkle a little. I recently purchased this handheld garment steamer, and use it almost everyday! The shirt wrinkled in the front where I was sitting for dinner and had the front tucked into my jeans. I steamed it after wards and it looked good as new when I tried it on for today’s photo! Thank god for technology. 😂 #ihateironing

One of the coolest features of this top is the cute button back! It fits tunic length on me (rejoice for the leggings!) and just gives the top that extra ‘classy’ look. I’m wearing a nude bra and thankfully no camisole required.  I do recommend going down one size. I’m wearing an XS.

Kendra & New Jeans

Kendra Scott:

Do you all love Kendra Scott as much as I do? I’ve been wearing her jewelry for years. Her line was first introduced to me via the blogger web almost 9 years ago. I think probably when her signature Rayne and Elisa necklaces became popular. At first I bulked at the price, but as she grew more popular, just like name brands such as Kate Spade and Tory Burch, you can always find a deal! And now I never pay full price. And still love her brand just as much. Nordstrom and the Kendra Scott website are probably my go-to for sales. It seems her pieces go on sale frequently. And while my Rayne necklaces are a thing of the past, I still love them.

My local mall in Sarasota recently opened a Kendra Scott store. Of course I was star-struck by all the new pretty pieces! My husband was with me and must have stuck with him also, because he gave me this necklace for Valentine’s Day. It comes in 3 beautiful color options. I love the berry color the best since we live in a temperate climate, but the other colors are fantastic for fall & winter. All 3 colors would pair with about any outfit.

This necklace at Nordstrom is almost identical to mine in color and currently on sale! I’m also madly in love with these turquoise and pink colors of my same necklace on sale here at the KS website.

Jeans:

Now lets talk jeans. I’ve been on the hunt lately for affordable jeans for work. No significant amount of distressing is a must (and absolutely no holes). Is it weird that sometimes that’s hard to find in brands these days? I have quite a few Joe’s jeans that are great for work, but I can’t afford premium denim very often, and I’ve really wanted some lighter jeans that don’t break the bank.

So many bloggers rave and rave about AE jeans. I’ve shopped at AE here and there for cardigans and tops over the years, but I always feel so old (lol) whenever I walk into a store that I basically stick to online shopping. However, the jeans I’ve just never given much thought about since I’m unfamiliar with sizing (at least since I hit 30 six years ago! ha!). I finally got over it though and purchased a couple pairs when they had a BOGO 25% sale.

Verdict? I’m a happy girl!  I get it now. Their waistband? Super stretchy. So they stay comfortable at work. They don’t stretch out throughout the day, and super affordable. The pair I’m wearing below are only $40 original price, and today on sale for 30% off. I’m wearing an 8Short. I usually wear size 28/6 in most brands, but since these are listed as a ‘jegging’ I went up one size. I honestly think I could go either way. As I’m writing this post I’ve been wearing them for several hours and they haven’t stretched out really at all. Still comfortable and not sagging. So I figure if they shrink a little in the wash, yay – but if not, no biggy. The waistband is very comfortable and I love that I’m not being ‘pinched’ in the waist like some jeans tend to do (I carry my weight around the stomach). As far as the length goes, I’m wearing a ‘short’ inseam – they are still a smidge long, but no means a deal breaker. I imagine they will shrink a tad in the wash. I would recommend a short inseam for anyone 5’4″ and under (I’m 5’2″) – if you are tad taller then I, these will likely fit you really well. I figure I’ll roll them come summer also! I also ordered a white pair (here).

Floral Peplum Top

Sharing a couple new items today that I’m in love with! I’ve been wishy washy about high waisted jeans since they became so popular last year. I have one pair in my closet and have struggled styling them appropriately. I carry a lot of of my extra weight right in my stomach area so they aren’t as flattering for me as others have described. 😂 However, the one pair I own I sized up. I figured I’d need the extra room in the waist. They stretch out a little throughout the day and already fit me a little bit in the legs, so end up looking like a saggy boyfriend jean.  This time I decided to give the high-waist jean another try when I saw this pair online – and I’m so glad I did!

Banana Republic floral peplum, Old Navy button high waisted denim, A New Day mules

I ordered my normal size in the jeans and I love, love the way they look with a short waisted peplum top! I have a couple shorter length tops in my closet and they just don’t look right with mid-rise jeans. I knew a higher waist would fix that and glad I took the chance with a new pair. It’s like it opened a whole new way to style clothes in my closet lol!

I sized down in the floral top – I was worried the v-neck would be too low for work. I think I could have gone either way (size down or normal size), the top is a wrap top (true wrap, not faux), but has an interior tie knot, a snap on the front, and a tie on the outside on the side. I never felt uncomfortable wearing it.

Casual Outfit: Gray Peplum

I’m always on the hunt for cute, casual tops that transition from work to weekend. Peplum tops are one of the best way to do that. The cute ruffle detail dresses up an otherwise average knit tee, and I’m always been a huge fan of the way they hide any extra tacos you might have fit in the night before! 😆

My peplum below is a new brand I’ve not tried in the past. It’s called “AQUA” and an exclusive to Bloomingdale’s. I would compare this line to a mix between Nordstrom’s Halogen and Caslon line. A mix of dressy and casual and affordable pricing. This top comes in 2 colors – gray and black – and is currently 30% off ($27). It’s very stretchy and a really soft knit. I ordered my regular size (small) and would say it fit perfectly. The v-neck did not feel too low either.

Casual Outfit: Faux Wrap Top

Happy Tuesday! I don’t know why though, Tuesday is just not Monday so it’s only a little better! 😆 Today’s outfit is featuring this awesome faux wrap top. I was immediately attracted to this spring ‘pink honey’ color, however it comes in 8 colors!  I didn’t even know what to do with myself with that many color options ha! However, it matched my new floral scarf from LOFT perfectly, so it was a no-brainer. I’m wearing a size small-petite in the top, which is my normal size for this brand. I originally ordered a size down per the brand recommendation, but found the XSP size to be too short in the arms. It’s 100% cotton, so I would be hesitant to size down. My normal size ended up fitting darn near perfect, with just a little extra room in case it shrinks.

size tip: I’m 5’2″, ~130 lb. and normally wear a size XS/S on top and 28/6P on bottom.
