Saturday On Sale

Guys, I haven’t shopped Ann Taylor in awhile ~ they are usually too ‘dressy’ for my wardrobe these days, but the new arrivals in their spring line are gorgeous!  I love all 3 skirts – even the pencil skirt (which I miss dearly for work!). The jeans are on trend and although it’s been several years since I’ve owned a pair of AT jeans, they were always fantastic quality. And hello gimme all the pink! 😍

Tie Knot Tee

Can we talk about this cute tie knot tee?! A new arrival from Nordstrom, and right up my alley! Perfect for weekends and if I’m feeling extra casual at work, this is my kind of tee. I was instantly drawn into the pink and blue color options (5 colors total), but really need white tees in my closet that will pair with everything, so I went with the boring color. 😝 The material is ‘marled’ and somewhat transparent in the white color. I was worried the white would be see thru, but with a nude bra it’s totally fine. I imagine that other color options are less transparent.

And I finally (6 months later…) found a pair of olive skinnies that I love! And from Old Navy to boot! If you remember my debacle from last fall, I found a pair of burgundy jeans for fall from Express that I loved… but the olive color in the same jeans was ehh. I passed. And ever since then I’ve tried various brands with little success. I mean, better late then never, right? ☺️

Floral Shirt + Denim Skirt

This floral shirt was a direct result of a Target run where “I only need nail polish” and came home with 2 colors of nail polish, a necklace, and 2 new shirts ha! EVERY.TIME. Their new spring line is really pretty! I fell in love with this floral print instantly ~ it’s hard to see in my photo, but it’s a beautiful palette of pinks, yellow, blue, peach, and the dark color I’m pretty sure is black (I struggle with this unless I’m in direct sunlight lol). The sleeves unroll to full length, or as shown here, there is a tab option to roll 3/4 length. The same print also comes as a tank top.

*size tip: I recommend going down one size. I’m wearing an XS. The arms are generous and the v-neck is a little low for work without a camisole underneath in my regular size.

Scallops & Gingham

As far as trends go this year, scallops and gingham are going strong! I’ve also seen studs pop back up on a few new sandals, so I figured I would throw together an outfit using all 3! My sweater is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale two years ago, but their Halogen brand just released an almost identical sweater in the same color (here). The sweater also comes in 3 other solid color options and a black/white striped option. It’s a closet favorite of mine and perfect for fighting off the air conditioning at work. My flats are also from the NSale… maybe 2-3 years ago? And like my other Sam Edelman flats, I have no reason to sell them – always a great shoe for work!

Since my outfit is a little older, I put together a couple widgets below of all the current gingham/studded flat options and also scallop sweaters! Click on the picture or the link to take you right to the item.

 Denim Skirt:

Just love this skirt! I wore it to work for the first time last week and felt comfortable all day long. It fits a little big (I purchased my normal size 6), but honestly I’m happy I did. It never stretched out and I was just happy with the way it fit. The length was really good also for work ~ not as long as a pencil skirt, but not as short as some of the ‘mini’ lengths can be.

Striped Peplum Tee:

Size tip: go down one size! I have this peplum tee is 2 colors – the striped color below and a coral color from last year. Currently on sale for $23, I highly recommend it for spring and heck into summer and fall! I layer mine under long cardigans for the cooler months. I purchased the XS in the striped version below. My coral color is an XS Petite, and I do feel like it fits a tad better, but the striped tee unfortunately only comes in regular sizing. I still love it, just wish it fit a tad higher on my waist. It also comes in a v-neck long sleeve version here.

Ruffle Shorts:

You’ve heard me say it before – I passed on these shorts last year, and was so happy to see they made a comeback! Perfect for tucking tops in or wearing a sweater over top. They do fit a little big, but I still went with my normal size (size 6). If you are in between sizes, I would go down to the smaller size. Also ~ my most worn mules from last summer are also back with a little different detail around the top and very pretty!

Rust & Pink:

One of those weird color combinations that I would never think to pair myself, but I figured I’d give it a try! Love that this rust striped tee (only $8) isn’t over the top with the rust color, so it paired perfectly with a muted pink denim. My sandals are on sale!

Scallop Skirt

Still so in love with these scalloped skirts! Very few sizes are left in this marigold color, but there are 5 other colors to choose from! I still have the pink and blue on my wishlist, especially now that we are warming up in the south! My outfit inspiration today came from an older blog called Outfit Posts. If you haven’t followed MJ in the past, you should definitely check out her older posts for work outfit inspiration. She was one of the first blogs I ever followed, and I miss her daily posts! She stopped blogging consistently a couple years ago after having a child and traveling for work, and selfishly I wish she still had time. ☺️ I still see her pop up on Pinterest from time to time, and my outfit was inspired by a post of hers using a similar pencil skirt version.

Sizing: I’m wearing a size 6. I also have size 4 in my closet in other versions, that are a tad more fitted, but not uncomfortable. The waist is very stretchy. The material of the skirt is a linen/cotton blend, so it will shrink a tiny bit after washing, so keep that in mind.

Casual Wedding Outfit

I recently attended an outdoor wedding in downtown Sarasota. The dress-code was ‘dressy casual’, so no formal dress, no jeans, but anything in between. It was a small wedding and most of the guests were people I know through the horse-world, so I knew I wanted to wear a dress, but also keep it a little down to earth. Since a lace dress was out, my goal was to find a dress that I could keep in my closet for ‘everyday’ type use.

I ended up choosing this gingham dress. At $88, I felt like the price point was fair for a nice dress that wasn’t over the top (before I knew the dress code for the wedding, I really wanted to wear an Eliza J dress like this one here – I love this for a dressy wedding!). The color and print spoke casual, but the ruffles felt more feminine. I made sure to add some color with my statement earrings and favorite summer clutch, because ya’ll know I can’t get dressed without some color!

Sizing: I’m wearing a size medium. I ordered this size based on the sizing recommendations for the BB Dakota brand, but I feel like the dress runs a little big. I’m a normal dress size 6, and I think a 4 would have fit a little better. If you’re in between sizes, I would say go down one size. The care tag also says to dry clean. I washed on delicate cycle, air dried, and steamed the dress and it came out just like new (and it didn’t shrink at all to my disappointment lol).

Casual Look: Button Back Top

I found a top that gives all the posh, suave, classy, date-night feels! I wore this exact outfit to a casual dinner the other night and felt like all of those adjectives listed previously – and comfortable! This tunic is made by a new brand (to me) from Nordstrom called ‘All In Favor’. At first I thought maybe they had re-branded the Lush line, but neither one are a made-for- Nordstrom brand, just a line they happen to carry. Both brands are very similar to one another. You might remember a drape front blouse I had featured on the blog months ago. It is made by this same brand (All In Favor) and still a closet favorite for work.

The material is 100% rayon, so it does wrinkle a little. I recently purchased this handheld garment steamer, and use it almost everyday! The shirt wrinkled in the front where I was sitting for dinner and had the front tucked into my jeans. I steamed it after wards and it looked good as new when I tried it on for today’s photo! Thank god for technology. 😂 #ihateironing

One of the coolest features of this top is the cute button back! It fits tunic length on me (rejoice for the leggings!) and just gives the top that extra ‘classy’ look. I’m wearing a nude bra and thankfully no camisole required.  I do recommend going down one size. I’m wearing an XS.

Jewel tones in spring, yes please! This skirt comes in 6 color options – I have a cobalt blue color from last year and it was definitely a spring/summer favorite for work! This marigold color is almost sold out, but check out the pale blue and pink options – so pretty! Both are on my wish list. My polka dot top is from LOFT and very old. One of those lost long loves in my closet, I noticed polka dot options popping up on various store sites and thought to style mine! Similar styles linked below.

Another work favorite, this skirt has made a come-back! First released last fall, sold out, and released again for spring. I’ve paired it with camel for fall, an ivory graphic sweater for Xmas, and now another neutral for spring with a pop of pink. The options are endless here.

Leopard, meet Zebra! Love adding eccentric & fun accessories to my closet. They are the kind you might wear once or twice a year, but they last forever and can pull them out of your closet at any time in the future and still ‘in style’. Because how often do belts really change?

Since leopard has been a popular spring trend this year, I’ve been trying to find different ways to incorporate my accessories into outfits with spring colors. This outfit was an unlikely pairing, but I ended up liking the warm ‘hues’ in the mules and bag compared with the cooler blues in the denim and sweater.

Bows & Ruffles. That should speak for itself! My shorts were popular from last year and I passed them up. I regretted it ever since, and when they were re-released a few weeks ago, I jumped on them right away and so happy I did! We are finally getting into shorts wether down in Florida (hopefully… blink and it’s in the 40s again.. ), and my goal is to find ‘nice’ shorts (ha). My closet is filled with distressed denim shorts, and it was so so hot last summer that I’ve realized I need to get on the ball with a few nice pair of shorts. I’m not a huge fan of my legs (lots of battle wounds and scars… lol. Ugh.), so I really avoid shorts at all costs, but this year I think I’m going to own those scars and rock shorts out! 🙂

LOL, and if you’re wondering.. I really do have some battle scars. Spider bite scar on one calf, dog bite scar on the other calf, I fell running a couple years ago in a 5k and have a bad scar on my knee and “scratches” going up my thigh that look like stretch marks on my other leg (from sliding in the gravel), spider veins from standing at work behind both knees, and… well, that might be it. I’m a mess. Or at least I feel that way, ha!

Kendra & New Jeans

Kendra Scott:

Do you all love Kendra Scott as much as I do? I’ve been wearing her jewelry for years. Her line was first introduced to me via the blogger web almost 9 years ago. I think probably when her signature Rayne and Elisa necklaces became popular. At first I bulked at the price, but as she grew more popular, just like name brands such as Kate Spade and Tory Burch, you can always find a deal! And now I never pay full price. And still love her brand just as much. Nordstrom and the Kendra Scott website are probably my go-to for sales. It seems her pieces go on sale frequently. And while my Rayne necklaces are a thing of the past, I still love them.

My local mall in Sarasota recently opened a Kendra Scott store. Of course I was star-struck by all the new pretty pieces! My husband was with me and must have stuck with him also, because he gave me this necklace for Valentine’s Day. It comes in 3 beautiful color options. I love the berry color the best since we live in a temperate climate, but the other colors are fantastic for fall & winter. All 3 colors would pair with about any outfit.

This necklace at Nordstrom is almost identical to mine in color and currently on sale! I’m also madly in love with these turquoise and pink colors of my same necklace on sale here at the KS website.

Now lets talk jeans. I’ve been on the hunt lately for affordable jeans for work. No significant amount of distressing is a must (and absolutely no holes). Is it weird that sometimes that’s hard to find in brands these days? I have quite a few Joe’s jeans that are great for work, but I can’t afford premium denim very often, and I’ve really wanted some lighter jeans that don’t break the bank.

So many bloggers rave and rave about AE jeans. I’ve shopped at AE here and there for cardigans and tops over the years, but I always feel so old (lol) whenever I walk into a store that I basically stick to online shopping. However, the jeans I’ve just never given much thought about since I’m unfamiliar with sizing (at least since I hit 30 six years ago! ha!). I finally got over it though and purchased a couple pairs when they had a BOGO 25% sale.

Verdict? I’m a happy girl!  I get it now. Their waistband? Super stretchy. So they stay comfortable at work. They don’t stretch out throughout the day, and super affordable. The pair I’m wearing below are only $40 original price, and today on sale for 30% off. I’m wearing an 8Short. I usually wear size 28/6 in most brands, but since these are listed as a ‘jegging’ I went up one size. I honestly think I could go either way. As I’m writing this post I’ve been wearing them for several hours and they haven’t stretched out really at all. Still comfortable and not sagging. So I figure if they shrink a little in the wash, yay – but if not, no biggy. The waistband is very comfortable and I love that I’m not being ‘pinched’ in the waist like some jeans tend to do (I carry my weight around the stomach). As far as the length goes, I’m wearing a ‘short’ inseam – they are still a smidge long, but no means a deal breaker. I imagine they will shrink a tad in the wash. I would recommend a short inseam for anyone 5’4″ and under (I’m 5’2″) – if you are tad taller then I, these will likely fit you really well. I figure I’ll roll them come summer also! I also ordered a white pair (here).
