Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ~ Favorites

I decided to go ahead and share my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale virtually since the problem with my credit card still hasn’t resolved and who knows when I’ll be able to place an order! 😔 If you guys were able to already place an order or shop in store, please feel free to share personal reviews here ~ remember the sale is only available to cardholders right now until July 20th, and then goes public through August 5th!  I usually have full reviews and outfits up by the end of the first week on the blog so that when the sale goes public I can tell you what is great, good, and not so good ~ so I’m only sharing what looks good for now. 😎 I have read reviews on some items in various places on other blogs, IG, FB, etc. so I’ll pass those along also!

Throwbacks:

The first set of items I thought I’d share are throwbacks!  They are repeats from last year that I already own in my closet in new prints or colors! And they are still in my closet so they are good. 🙂

Halogen Scallop Sweater

Halogen Scallop Sweater
Fits tts ~ my color is from last year and it’s a repeat this year! Comes in a ton of colors!

AG jeans (sold out – same jean diff color also on sale) | Striped Tee

AG denim, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
My premium denim purchase from last year ~ a great pair of jeans that I still wear all the time! Fit tts.

Simple $12 Tee

A great little everyday tee ~ comes in a ton of colors! Fits tts.

Sam Edelman Boots

Sam Edelman boots, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
Newest version of my boots available in 3 colors ~ I love mine! Fit tts.

Sweaters:

The best part of the NSale is finding brand new, never seen before, fall items that are great staple pieces that will carry you through winter. I have several sweaters and cardigans still in my closet that I wear every year, even in Florida winters, because they are so easy to layer! Here are my favorites.

v-neck pullover | circle hem cardigan | scallop sleeve sweater

dolman sleeve sweater | scallop sweater (as shown above)

Tops:

And here are some great staples for warmer-ish days!

ruffle sleeve top | thermal top | striped long sleeve tee

twist front long sleeve tee | long sleeve cotton tee

Jeans:

So many affordable options! I’ve never tried these 2 brands, but they’ve gotten great reviews – I wanted to try either of the dark pair options, but the step hem are really cute also for everyday wear!

Wit & Wisdom dark skinny | Kut from the Kloth ripped | Wit & Wisdom black skinny

Kut from the Kloth release hem skinny | Kut from the Kloth step hem skinny

Boots:

I literally want every single one of these booties – in whatever color! They each come in several options. However I talked myself out of ordering any of them this time – usually these will all still be available after the NSale and since I live in Florida I’m going to wait til our actual fall and see if these are on sale then. But if I was still in Indiana……. oh be still my heart!

Vince Camuto boots | BP booties | Lucky Brand wedges

Vince Camuto booties | Steve Madden boots

Flats:

These were all on my “to buy now” wish list! The Tory Burch flats were on my first order that was cancelled. The reviews are somewhat mixed though. I pretty much only wear either Tory Burch, Sam Edelman, or Steve Madden flats to work on long days (9+ hours). They are the only ones that hold up and I can stand comfortably in. The Tory Burch minnie flats (here) are 100% my favorite but rarely go on sale. I get them when I can find a deal because they feel like butter! However I usually always buy the NSale version also which is not AS comfortable, but comparable to the Steve Madden or Sam Edelmans. Reviews on this years version say they are more stiff than the Minnies, but soft enough to be comfortable. If they are still available I plan to order them when my card issue is resolved. I also love the Steve Madden mules below for casual days, and the Sam Edelman flats that come in a million colors! I want the pink ones. 🙂

Tory Burch flats | Steve Madden mules | Leopard mules

Nike training sneakers | Sam Edelman flats

And that’s a wrap!  All of my favorites! There were of course other items that caught my eye, but not at the top of my list. The one thing that was lacking this year was bags and accessories. Usually I love a BP or Sole Society bag that would be at the top of my list, but they hardly offered any affordable options that caught my eye. I also usually pick up a Kendra Scott item or even Kate Spade earrings, but again nothing caught my eye. Just gimme allll the shoes haha!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Flip or Flop?

Alright ya’ll. I just had to take a break the last week from the blog. I needed a little rejuvenation after taking care of sick pups (both are stable and snoozing next to me 🐶), working 50+ hours at the J-O-B and now I’m sitting here writing this post going on 48 minutes of hold time with Nordstrom customer care.  The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has become one of my favorite sales/events of the year. I love that they team up with different brands (like Nike and Tory Burch) to bring out early fall styles unique to those brands & Nordstrom at discounted prices, including their own stores brands (like BP and Caslon). I’ve heard of people having problems in years past with placing orders, and I have certainly had items cancelled from my order (but the order still was placed and shipped minus the sold out item), and however frustrating that might be things always went smoothly and I was aware of any issues and they were resolved quickly.

I woke up early Thursday morning on the first day of the private cardholder sale to start shopping before heading in to work, chose my favorite items, and got that spinning wheel of dread at checkout we sometimes see when it can’t quite place your order. It finally changed to “sorry your transaction can’t be completed at this time” or something similar, and I tried again… This time it just sort of timed out, but my Nordstrom Note (reward) also disappeared which worried me. I went to check my credit card and sure enough – a pending transaction was shown, but no order number. Soon thereafter Nordstrom posted a statement on their website apologizing for site and app glitches and promised they were working hard to restore this issue. It wasn’t resolved by the time I had to leave for work, so I waited til I got home at 10 pm to re-check my card. The transaction was still pending. Knowing I had to work 13 hours the next day (Friday), I decided to email them instead. Come Saturday morning (today), I still have a pending transaction, no e-mail response, and my items are all sold out.

As I was typing this blog post, the Nordstrom customer care rep was finally able to help me after contacting a financial team member. It was confirmed my order did not go through, but the transaction and my reward are hung up on my card and will not fall off for 3-5 business days (meaning for me… up til Wednesday). It just stinks. I know this is not a first world problem. They are just clothes and shoes – but for someone like myself who just loves style and shopping – it’s an enjoyable part of my year that was ruined – especially for my blog! The one positive I can say, is that Nordstrom does re-stock their website as returns come through – and I have a feeling there will be a lot more returns this year then normal. I scoured their Instagram and Facebook pages prior to calling because I knew the wait time was going to be long and was hoping to find someone with the same problem as me (mine was only at least one transaction…. other people have FIVE pending transactions!) – and although I didn’t see a resolution to my issue, I did see that numerous orders were “duplicated” for people and both orders shipped, meaning those people are likely to return the duplicated order. The bad part is I’ve also seen a lot of people post that their orders aren’t expected to ship until the end of the month, and by then the sale is almost over.

So after all that – I hope you all had a much better experience if you shopped the sale already! It’s open to the public with or without a Nordstrom Card on July 20th. There were so many items I fell in love with and I think I might try and get a post of “favorites” together for you that I was going to purchase – or still will – if available later next week ha! I just wish I had a true review to go along with them. Another thought I had was to put virtual outfits together. A lot of items are still available and restocked from vendors after the sale if they aren’t exclusive to Nordstrom (like Vince Camuto booties), they just aren’t obviously on sale at that point. The funny part of that story is I wasn’t even planning on purchasing fall items since I live in Florida – all of my purchases were for tees, sandals, flats, and jeans! Argh! Apparently I was meant to shop for all the fall goodies which I normally do – and the not wear them til November! 😆

I’ll keep you guys in the loop – if I can get an order placed in the next couple of days I’d rather do a real try on and review session, but if not I’ll do a review of favorites and put outfits together virtually – or maybe both!  And I gotta say now…….. NEXT YEAR, this girl is driving 2 hours to her closest Nordstrom store and getting this sale on in real life ha!

Transition Through Seasons

Guys, I go through this twice a year. That time of year where I’m so sick of all the pinks and greens and brights colors because they’ve been so prominent in fashion since February, and ready for fall colors even though it’s 562 degrees outside. I go through this same transition/blah/bored with clothes period in January (when I’m craving all things spring!) and in July when I’m craving all things fall (however jokes on me because we don’t get a fall in Florida haha!). I go from one day loving dark classic pieces to the next wanting my bright colors again.  The only fun part of this period in July is the Nordstrom Sale hitting stores next week ha!

I saw these nautical pants in store a couple weeks ago and fell in love with them! They are slightly high waisted, zip on the side, and very streamlined. I do recommend going up one size – I could get my regular size zipped, but uncomfortably lol. I returned for a size larger and so happy I did! I paired them here with this easy swing tank, but I’ve tried them on with a classic short sleeve sweater, and also a front tuck tank and both are so fun! These are definitely staple work pants.

So here is my idea of a fall transition outfit. Still summery in texture, but screaming fall and classic with the dark colors. Tomorrow I will be back to all things pink. 🙂

Embroidered Shell Top

I love summer tops like the embroidered one below! It pairs well with shorts and pants – I did try to tuck it into a sidewalk skirt with an elastic band and wasn’t a fan –  but haven’t tried a pencil skirt.  The material is a linen/cotton blend so sturdier than a regular linen and I think is better left untucked. It comes in this white color and also navy and green! And fits TTS. I also linked some of my favorite options below from J.Crew, Banana, and LOFT!

Hi everyone! Just trying to resume ‘normalcy’ after the dog fiasco this past week! Our little guy is still getting better. Everyday I would say is a 5-10% improvement. I hope it holds. I’ve read a lot about relapses in older dogs when medications are stopped. I wish it was cooler out, he’s much more energetic and I can tell he wants to go for walks and play ball, but I don’t feel comfortable letting him get hot & tired just yet. I told my husband when he can jump on and off the couch and bed by himself, we will know he’s on the mend! Yesterday and today he jumped up by himself, but still uneasy about jumping down (we help him). So we take him on ‘fake walks’ around the house outside. It kind of works. 🙂

I hope you all are having a good weekend! I’m still just really tired. I can tell I haven’t had a good nights sleep in over a week. Every time our dog moves in the middle of the night, I wake up thinking he might fall off the bed or need something (I can’t imagine if I’m ever a human parent – I’ll be a nutcase lol). I’ve continued to workout off and on, but I’m sore because of the inconsistency which is one more reason just to curl up on the couch and be a potato!

On a brighter note, did you all see the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale kicks off for cardholders July 12th?! It feels way too soon!  Every year I try to pick a different tactic on what I will buy, what I will pass on, and this year it’s just kind of hit or miss. I’ve purchased from the sale the last 3 years and I can tell you the products that are still in my closet and I use every year are jeans and shoes. I like to pick up the affordable products from brands like BP and Lush, but unless it’s something non-trendy (like a good tee), I think I might pass this year. Same with bags. I’ve picked up several bags over the last few years from the sale (affordable ones) and aside from maybe one Sole Society bag, the others get ignored. The catalog is available online (here), and I’ve so far got my eyes on the Steve Madden mules (page 20) and any of the booties on page 36! There is always a release of new AG jeans – I have pairs from the last 3 years and still wear them all the time – definitely worth the splurge!  BP usually has a nice long cardigan sweater also. Always a good staple for winter. It will all be here before we know it! Now on to today’s flatlay!….

Large, tropical floral prints are hot for summer this year! Old Navy have several options to choose from and always affordable. I have this print and the white/green floral – both are super cute! And only $15. These tanks in general are always just so easy to wear for work and casual. They tuck into skirts nicely, look good under a cardigan, and long enough for skinny pants (tall and petite sizing available).

Hi guys! It’s been a minute since I’ve posted.  I wanted to give you a peek into my personal life and a little “food for thought”, but if this not at all what you’re here for, feel free to skip below for outfit details. 🙂

I’ve honestly just been exhausted the last week. We have 2 older dogs that are from the same litter (brother and sister) and both have just started to really age the last couple of months. The are 13.5 years old. They both have cancer (different kinds, different areas), and the last few weeks have been vet visit after vet visit. Just when we think one is doing ok, the other one has another ailment. The biggest issue right now is our male started having dizzy spells last week that came on suddenly. We initially thought seizure of course, ran him to the oncology vet, only to get clean lab work and he was mostly normal the rest of the day. Over the last week he continued to have spells sporadically, but for much shorter duration – seconds even, until finally Tuesday he was full blown vertigo 24/7 (and of course while my husband and I are working a 12 hour shift… our pet sitter was left to care for him during the day, ugh). We took him to a speciality emergency vet yesterday who thankfully was so passionate and gave us all the possibilities and empirical treatment options (the only way to truly diagnose an issue like this is to complete an MRI +/- spinal tap which is about a 2 hour drive for us + heavy sedation for an older dog… oh and about $4,000!). We opted to start antibiotics and anti-nausea meds and hope it’s an infection versus the alternative which would be inflammation and/or brain tumor.  If he hasn’t improved by early next week we will switch our treatment to a steroid regimen.

Eddie during Irma evacuation last year. Diagnosed with inoperable cancer the week before and we started chemotherapy. We ran away to Georgia and started exploring state parks and made a “bucket list.” 🙂

He’s sleeping at my feet right now as I write this, but goodness life sure has changed from when I was a kid. I’m so thankful for all the advanced treatment for pets, research studies, advanced diagnostics, etc. but the couple of dogs that I had as a child just lived to be old and you knew when it was “time.”  I feel like I’m running a doggy hospice out of my house lol!  I love them dearly like they are my kids and will make the best decision based on their quality of life and when it’s “time”, it’s time. However, dealing with dogs that have a week hind-end and arthritis (like my dogs growing up) is much easier than cranial nerve lesions and liver masses.  This post is becoming way too detailed and long for a style blog, I just feel like typing it out somehow helps and it’s really my ‘food for thought’ of the day. I believe cancer is on the rise for pets as much as it is humans. Now whether that’s because of vaccines, processed dog food, pesticides, or all of the above? Something else? It’s hard to say, but it makes you think about their little bodies like we think of ours when it comes down to situations like we are in now.

I’ve never considered pet insurance in the past for my dogs (it used to be a staple for my horses, but like human insurance – they now limit certain conditions, require you to “prove” their worth, etc.), but if/when (I can’t even fathom that right now!) we have future pets I will definitely consider it. If there is a life saving surgery, medicine, etc. that is now available to pets like never before, I feel just like humans they should have access to it and a pet owner shouldn’t be limited by expenses – especially now that I’ve learned HOW expensive things are like CT scans and MRI! Anyway, I don’t meant to rant on here – I just wanted to explain my sporadic blog absences, but also throw out some experience I’ve had the last week with veterinarian specialities and cost. The advancement amazes me, the cost blows my mind, but also the fact that our little fur babies are experiencing these diseases at an increased rate just like humans, is concerning. And this is why I have 4 science degrees. 😂 #nerdalert

Fitness Outfit:

And if you’ve made it this far –  I wanted to share some affordable workout clothes that I’ve mentioned before in the past. Old Navy makes some of my favorite running shorts, especially now that we are in Florida. I used to run in Nike Tempo shorts, but the inseam drove me nuts. They always felt “blousy” and would rub funny on my thighs, especially when it was humid. The Old Navy version is more streamlined, and heck for the price!? Full price they are only $16.99 and you can usually always find them on promo for less. I also wanted to share the cutest tie-back workout top! It comes in 5 colors, I just picked one that matched the shorts, but really want to get a couple more colors! I have a solid (no mesh) version from last season and was really excited to see this latest top which hopefully means they will continue to make it!  Oh it’s only $20 full priced. 🙂 I run, workout, wear it casually, and also ride my horses in it! The tie-waist in the back makes it so much better than a regular top!

My earphones are worth the price also. They connect to my Apple watch via bluetooth so I don’t have to carry my phone while running. I’ve never had issues with them falling out of my ears either. And comfortable!

I threw my shoes into this flatlay, but really I can’t recommend enough going to a running store and have your feet evaluated for proper shoes by an expert. I see other bloggers recommend running shoes and say “I LOVE these running shoes!” without any explanation, and that’s how injuries happen – people buy whatever running shoes seems “pretty.”

I am an extreme supinator. That fancy term just means I underpronate my foot and put pressure toward the outside when I run and essentially roll my ankle outward (**fun fact: I tend to “bend” one leg in my pictures all the time – I do this because of my knee/foot structure — otherwise I look very knock-kneed!). I tend to wear the soles of my running shoes out on the outside and ruin them before 300 miles. The best running shoe for me is a cushioned shoe to allow my foot to equalize the pressure and hopefully stabilize and prevent injury. However, I hate running in cushioned shoes ha! I like the way stability shoes feel, so I’m truly a mess when it comes to running shoes. I “compromised” (lol) with the running store employee when I purchased the Asics below because they are somewhat 1/2 stability, 1/2 cushion. Better than the Brooks Adrenaline which I covet and love, but wear them out in about 6 weeks (my last pair had zero tread left on the outside… almost a hole!). Anyway, moral of this story – talk to someone about your feet if you are just starting to run – it will save you both potential injury and also money in the long run. 🙂 The Asics below I’ve had for a couple months. They are definitely wearing down, but the tread on the bottom is wearing more evenly across the sole of my foot and not just on the outside. I feel like I’m running in clogs, but I guess “if the shoe fits!”…. LOL.

And lastly, if you’re looking for a great pair of socks that will help prevent blisters and are the perfect running sock… check out Feetures! running sock below. They are pricey, especially for a sock, but worth every penny. I only have 4-5 pairs and cringe when I run a lot in one week, laundry hasn’t been done, and I have to reach for an old pair of Nike socks with no cushion. They come in various sizes of cushioning also. I like the ultra lite or lite cushion versions.

These sailor pants for work are gorgeous! I saw them on a mannequin when I shopped in store earlier this week and fell in love with the buttons, streamline fit, and color. They have black buttons, but the material is a navy blue color. I do recommend going up one size if you are bigger in the hips like I am 😝 I pulled my regular size up, but couldn’t zip them lol! #toomuchcake My sweater comes in 13 colors and is a stretchy-cotton fabric and perfect for air-conditioning in the office! I wanted to show you guys an up close view of this perfect little $15 tee! It comes in 4 colors – blue striped, white striped, red, and white. I have both striped versions – flatlay shown here. It’s definitely super relaxed – the kind of tee you throw on for errands, hanging around the house, and days where you just want to wear jean shorts and sandals but feel a little more put together (ok, I’m like that most days lol). It has a somewhat oversized fit and I purchased my regular size to get the drape look in the back.
