Work Outfit: Jewel Tones

Today’s work outfit is a little business and a little holiday fun. Around this time of year the reds and greens start to take over the stores as we prepare for the upcoming holidays. I’m always been a huge fan of jewel tones (rich greens, blues, and reds like maroon), and when I put this outfit together it was all because of the necklace.

I was drawn into the color tones – it matches the blue clutch and green skirt perfectly, and then has touches of rose gold and a blush pink to off-set the bold colors. I love it!

How do you guys create an outfit? Sometimes I start with the jewelry or shoes like today’s outfit, and sometimes it’s the top or maybe a printed pair of pants. I know the golden rule used to be “always dress around a great pair of shoes” – but since my shoes are more sensible then fun, I choose the jewelry side more often instead! And sometimes… I just throw on whatever the hell I want, look in the mirror, and say “Ya. That should do it.” 😆 and call it a day!

Outfit details below. Happy humpday friends!

Those Snakeskin Mules

Ahh, these mules. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know the whole story. If not – I’ll give you the quick run down. I purchased them originally (online) from Macy’s. They shipped from a store in Massachusetts, and arrived used on the soles… and not only used, the person who previously owned them ripped off one of the beads and stuck it in the top sole of one of the mules. They were shipped to me exactly this way. In a box without tissue paper or stuffing, so you could blatantly see the damage. I was mad of course, but honestly just had to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. It’s a dark day in customer service friends.

Macy's bad customer service, used shoes from Macy's

I think the worst part of it all was that no one cared. I called Macy’s 1-800 customer service line right away and explained the issue with the girl there… after listening to me, she goes “so, you want to return the shoes”? 🙄

She processed the return right away, but that was it. They have a “texting” customer service line, so I did send them pictures. They seemed slightly more concerned and at least apologized. They forwarded my information onto the manager at the Massachusetts store, whom did call me and leave a message while I was at work. I tried calling her back twice, but it was a huge roundabout and couldn’t get a hold of her. I gave up at that point. Not worth my time.

I did re-order the shoes (on my own dime) and they did come perfectly the second time thankfully. From a store in Miami no doubt!

So after all that, I ended up loving the mules thankfully! And as much as I don’t want to link money to Macy’s right now, these mules are on a great sale (maybe I should return mine for a better price 😝. jk!) If you use code ‘EVENT’ they are only $30! (originally $70). They also make a non-beaded version (not on sale).

Free People South Side thermal, Joe's Icon Skinny Ankle Jeans, Merona bag, Steve Madden snakeskin mules

This post was supposed to be centered around this beautiful thermal top above, not the mules LOL! It comes in a bajillion colors and it’s one that I think you can get away, with or without a bralette (or strapless bra). I’m actually wearing my normal beige (demi) bra underneath, but I adjusted the straps out a little farther. It works for me and is more comfortable then strapless. I think I’ve posted before – if I want to wear a bralette out and about (versus just hanging out at home), I would wear my regular bra and put the bralette over top. It’s about the same comfort level as a camisole for me.

I did go down one size on the top. I normally take an XS in Free People clothing and that’s what I’m wearing here (I’m normally a size small in most brands).

The top has somewhat of an elastic band at the bottom. I have it pulled down here in the photo to show length, but it could easily be tucked in front or allowed to roll up underneath itself which I actually would probably do most often.

Fall Look: Florida

Well, we had a good few days of nice, crisp, Fall weather down here in the Sunshine state… and then just like that Mother Nature said “nope” and took it all away. 😝 We took this photo during one of those mornings and it really was a perfect outfit. However, no matter where you live I really recommend this cardigan – it’s the perfect layering piece whether over a tank or long sleeve tee. It’s chunky, over-sized, and a waffle knit so won’t make you too hot. Whenever (if) we finally get cooler weather, I will definitely  layer this cardigan over a long sleeve tee, and add a scarf if needed (if I need a coat it means we are dying 😂😂).

Right now my tank and cardigan are both 20% off online only! Free 2-day shipping if you have ShopRunner, or normal free shipping with a store card.

Friday Flatlays

Hello friends! As you’ve seen, I’ve been posting a lot of new outfit photos this week on blog. I’ve stepped away from flatlays and concentrated more so on showing you what the outfits actually look like! I hope that’s actually a good thing. 🙂

I’ve still put together several flatlays over the last week, I’ve just shared them Instagram each day and figured it would be nice to get back to “Flatlay Fridays” on the blog! I used to do this months ago (years ago? lol who knows), and I enjoyed doing this weekly roundup. I didn’t get to take many #ootd photos this past week, but I’m thinking of dedicating Thursday to ‘daily outfits’ of some sort also. It really all just comes down to work (meh). Thankfully I think our 12-13 hour work days are coming to an end for the next few months, so I’ll have a couple hours each day for the blog. Which excites me always!

Fall Work Look: Plaid Skirt

This is one of those outfits that I wasn’t really sure about, but decided to post anyway. This skirt is really versatile and can pair easily with about any color. I wanted to create a “different but neutral” look, and went with different shades of brown. The camel was an easy pick, but then I had to decide if I wanted to play it really safe and go with black pumps and a black bag…. or have a little fun and go with cognac toned leopard pumps and cognac bag. I had the black pumps on, walking out the door, and last second chose the fun/less comfortable option!

If you’ve been reading style blogs for awhile, you might remember Tara K who wrote Mix & Match Fashion (later known as The Mix blog) – she hasn’t written in about 2 years (so sad also, she was one of my favorites!), but her motto was always “work doesn’t mean boring.” I loved that. She always chose the less safe route, and mixed her colors and prints beautifully. Not that I’m wearing a lot of color – I wanted neutrals – but even pairing a combination of neutrals can be challenging.

Those Tiny Florals

I remember talking about tiny florals versus large florals on the blog awhile back. They both are pretty popular right now in the fashion world. I’m drawn to the large floral patterns I think more-so (my favorite is this shirt from Express), however the tiny floral print in today’s post is a new favorite also! I wore this shirt pretty relaxed here. It features tie bell sleeves and a v-neck not so uncomfortable I needed a camisole. I played around with a half-tuck in the front but decided I liked it better just left undone. If you look at the stock picture, the model has the sleeves tied up higher. I’m not sure if that’s because she’s got a lot longer arms then me, but I was afraid to mess with the ties on the sleeves and not be able to get them back where they started – so I left them! But I’m thinking they can be tightened to create more of a “ruched” look. Maybe I’ll play around with that on the next post. 🙂

Holiday Party

Hi everyone! So I took little extra time off from blogging last week – it was my husband’s birthday and we enjoyed just spending time together. We hung out near the coast (we live about 10 minutes inland) and at parks, with our horses, ate way too much lol! And it was actually really nice to just take a step away from social media for the week. I headed back to work on Saturday, so on Thursday I sat down and started to think about the blog again. I’ve been talking about taking some real outfit photos for awhile – and so we did!

Todays’ outfit is actually a “flatlay come to life” from a couple weeks ago. I still love this pretty peplum top. It’s definitely lightweight – so perfect for Florida, or throw a cardigan on over top if you’re up north. I would love to style it like that and with booties once we get a little chillier weather down here. That being said – I saw my breath this morning on my run! Woo hoo! The crisp fall air was so refreshing!

Old Navy gingham peplum top, Merona pumps, Purple Peridot leopard clutch, Kendra Scott necklace, Ann Taylor side zip leggings

The “V” part of the top is a little low cut – I threw on a camisole underneath. I picked up this $8 camisole from Target.

I sized down on the peplum top. As you can see from the above photo it’s a little flowy. I’m wearing an XS and normally I’m a true size small.

I called this outfit “holiday party” because truly I can see this being a fun, affordable outfit for an office party or party with friends this holiday season!

Also – if red isn’t your thing, this top comes in 3 other prints!

Monday Mood

I hope you all had a good weekend! Mine was lazy, lazy. My husband and I are on a stay-cation this week, but it’s also his birthday week – so I’m kind of letting him run the show. Which means we sleep late and might do this, or might do that, or who knows haha! So my day started in this comfy, crazy soft tee and shorts working on my Poshmark closet – do you guys sell clothes there? I’ve only just started. Poshmark claims to be a very “social” page, so I searched (aka googled lol) what that really means yesterday. I recommend doing the same! I found some great algorithms that help you get share your “closet” to other Poshers! Apparently it works, because I had several offers and bundles (where buyers can put items from your closet together into a bundle and make an offer) just over night. Before that, I was maybe selling one item a week. Not enough to even really bother with it. I’ve sold things on eBay for the last 15 years (*secret: I’ve always been a huge shopaholic. Since I was like 12 haha). I figured out really quick in my early 20s when I slowly started to take over my parents burden that I needed to sell to buy new. So, I’ve sold on eBay for a long, long time.  But over the last couple of years they’ve burned their bridge with me. Poshmark requires the buyer to accept the item right away within a few days and they can only return for quality, not if it doesn’t fit perfectly. Versus eBay I think gives the buyer 45 days? And will let them return for any reason. Craziness.

So anyway, I’ve been pretty happy with my Poshmark experience! But if you want to be a great Posher, search for the “Once a Day and Done, 30 Minute Method” – that’s what I’m doing and it works!

American Eagle tee, Express shorts

burnout tee | my shorts are old, but I highly recommend these!

In other news, it was chilly this morning! Finally! I put this flatlay together yesterday, because I was pretty excited to get 2 new pairs of running shorts in the mail – and new running shoes!  I stopped running for the most part the last 6 weeks or so because it got really hot and muggy down here. I’ve had some issues with my left hip/knee hurting, so I didn’t want to push it in the heat and also with my old running shoes. I was due for some new ones, and decided to go with a pair of Nikes. I usually always run in Brooks or Asics, but these Nike Pegasus have had great reviews in the past, and are the appropriate “type” of shoe for my foot, so I figured why not? I love the way they look also! They come in a couple others colors and are on sale! And ya’ll have heard me rave about the running shorts below. I like them better than Nike Tempo shorts. They are less “blousey” and fit better for some reason. And you can’t be the $17 price tag that is usually always at a discount also!
