work outfit: chartreuse top & black pants

As much as love playing with colors and prints, I’m sadly drawn to the “normal” bold and bright colors that hang in my closet — deep pinks, turquoise, royal blue, etc.  I saw this sweater top in store last month and on a total impulse purchase, realized I had nothing similar hanging in my closet and brought her home. The sales associates of course never help in store with their “Oh, I LOVE that color – it will look so pretty on you!”  #yousaidthattoheralso #iheardyou #enabler
However much they convinced me to buy this top – I’m very happy with it!  And excited to have a pretty spring color in my closet like none other.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Years Eve!  I’ve never been one for NYE resolutions – or at least none that I stick by or take entirely too seriously – but it’s always nice to have that feeling of “It’s a new year, new beginnings, lets erase the mistakes and bad times and move forward” – nothing wrong with that! 🙂  I feel like the last 6 months of have been an extreme whirlwind!
A little bit into my personal life – I graduated pharmacy school in May, my husband and I sold everything except our dogs, horses, and the clothes we could bring in our cars, and moved down to southwest Florida outside of Sarasota.  Moving forward, we took our pharmacy boards, accepted job offers, bought a house, and now trying to figure out how to replace everything we sold!  There have been ups and down, stressful moments, and happy moments. We have by no means found our permanent “lets grow old here” home, but we are working on it — one step at a time!
So if I have any NYE resolution this year — it will be to keep working hard in finding that true meaning to our lives in 2016.  On a somewhat silly side note — I also need to work hard on my closet (lol). In all seriousness, I really want to work harder at finding good quality pieces to have in my closet (I feel like a broken record, because I know I’ve said this before).  That might mean spending more on one quality piece, rather than buying 5 of the same thing at Old Navy because it’s on sale (guilty).  Not that you can’t find some good finds at cheaper stores like ON, H&M, etc… or even big box brands such as J. Crew, LOFT, Banana, etc… but I’m notoriously guilty of buying because “OMG how cute!” regardless of whether I’ll truly get a lot of use out of the piece, or if it’s right for my body type as well.  I’m not good about mixing and re-using items in my closet as well as I should. 🙂
Anyway, enough babble — HAPPY NEW YEARS FRIENDS!

work outfit: floral wrap blouse

I don’t know how I waited so long to try a wrap blouse.  I suppose it’s one of those shirts that may look too loose, too low cut, too frumpy on certain people but not others?  Well, I’m so glad I tried it because I’m in loooovee!  Thankfully this certain blouse wasn’t too low cut for me (although I did re-adjust during the day to make sure, and a camisole would easily fix that).  And it definitely is not frumpy, but loose enough to cover all of my tummy troubles!  Not to mention I love the floral pattern on this particular blouse.  Listed below are some other wrap blouse options — including Target!  I might give their solid one a try. Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

((On a completely unrelated side note — don’t mind the double chin :-{. I somehow broke or messed up my camera tripod and am looking down at the camera when I take pictures until I can get it replaced.  #attractive ))

instagram update

Hi friends!  I hope you are having a good week!  Just sharing some recent IG photos this week. I’ve been working on putting together my “office” in one of our spare bedrooms. I have a long way to go, but one of my favorite pieces is this huge mirror I found at a furniture store in town. I’ve been experimenting with taking full length photos instead of the coveted “selfie” since it provides an actual view of the outfit. I have an older iPhone 6, so the camera quality isn’t as good as the newer 6s.  I’m due for an update, but with all things life, a phone update hasn’t been a top priority. 🙂 Although, some of the “mirror selfies” I see bloggers take with their phones are pretty snazzy!  Like everything, it’s a work in progress.

work outfit: tartan plaid & bow blouse

tartan plaid skirt
Somehow this outfit turned into more school-girl then I was expecting!  I was very excited to pick up a tartan plaid pencil skirt for the holidays this year and planned to wear it with a bow blouse not tied around the neck, but I just didn’t like how it was pieced together. I swapped out this tie-neck blouse instead along with my tassel loafers… resulting in a little more prep, and a little less adult.  #oopsie.
I thankfully got compliments from my co-workers which made me feel much better about my (secret) mistake!  Either way, if you are looking for a good “holiday print” – tartan plaid is a great choice!  I linked several other options below other than the pencil skirt.

work outfit: stripes & floral

I have many “types” of work outfits you could say.  I have my “power outfits” — you know, the kind where you want to feel super put together and get work done like you mean it (normally a pencil skirt and no-nonsense blouse and pointy flats for this girl), my “Saturday” outfits — usually worn either on the weekends, or when I’m feeling “blah” and consists of tights or ponte pants covering the lady bits with a tunic, and lastly “fun outfits” — mixing bright prints and colors!  I probably wear the latter more than anything! 🙂 Today’s outfit is one of those.

work outfit: polka dot pants

These pants are so fun!  I’ve always been a huge fan of Banana Republic’s ‘Sloan’ pants.  They come in regular, short, petite, AND tall sizing — I’m right on the brink of short v. petite. BR petite does not fit me well, but the “short” sizing is perfect! As dress pants go, these fit wonderfully.  The material is thick, comfortable, and holds its shape well throughout the day.  Needless to say, I couldn’t resist the polka dot version. 🙂 Right now BR has them on sale also for $49.50! If polka dots aren’t for you, I also recommend trying out the neutral colors in black and navy.

I hope everyone’s week is going well!  Did you find any great Cyber Monday deals?  I feel like this year was better than last!  I honestly didn’t buy too much since we have spent so much purchasing furniture for the new house, but I found a couple new skirts and blouses for work that I’m excited to share when they arrive. 🙂

These Instagram pictures are from a couple weeks back, but should hopefully catch me up to the present finally!

casual post: plaid pocket blouse & fringe booties

I picked up these booties ohh you know, 3 months ago now?  Because Florida is supposed to be the perfect ankle bootie weather this time of year with highs in the 50s/60s. #lies

It’s just been unseasonably warm this year, so unfortunately I’ve gotten very little use out of these… not that I miss the frigid cold. 🙂 However, they are super cute, comfortable and I highly recommend them if you have sock weather where you’re at!  I’ve seen other bloggers pair them with shorts… that’s slightly out of my comfort zone, but a fun shift dress and jean jacket – yes please!

My top is on super sale — $23!  It’s almost sold out online, but use the “find in store” option – I do that often!
