work outfit post: flutter sleeve top & pencil skirt

It has been so rainy down here lately I thought a bright colored top was in need on this Monday!  I also was anxiously waiting the results of my board exam taken last week and my mood was less than jovial until I got the results — I passed!  I’m now officially a licensed pharmacist.  🙂  And currently celebrating with a large bowl of ice cream and catching up on lots of DVR recordings.

work outfit post: paisley pencil skirt & linen top

I had fun wearing a mix of bright colors with a summery print yesterday to work.  Come sometime in August I tend to start switching over to the fall color palette, although this fall I’m going to have to be a little more creative then in the past with my new “environment.”  I’m thinking knee high boots, jeans, flannel shirt, and vest aren’t going to fair well in southern Florida?  No?  Shoot.

I’ve had my eyes out for nice plaid shirts that are lightweight and can be paired easily with denim shorts or cropped pants which could substitute for my normal flannel with jeans in the midwest.  Last year I jumped on the ankle bootie train and both pairs I purchased turned out to be somewhat of a bust and sold them on eBay before we moved.  One pair was from Target’s clearance rack (not comfy) and the other were expensive Uggs that were too loose in the ankle.  I think ankle booties are my best option for “boots” in Florida and I’m excited to invest some time and research into a pair that would work best for me.
Below are couple of options I found in the Nordstrom Sale (now open to everyone through August 3rd!).  For my midwest friends and family I highly recommend checking all of their fall goodies out now before they are sold out – can’t beat the prices!  And I know you can all enjoy them much more than myself. (The one thing I am going to miss the most about the midwest is Fall — I do love it as much as summer! Until it gets below 50 degrees… then I’m ready for summer again). I’m really having to restrain myself on the fringe booties. #thestruggle  #veryreal

work outfit post: striped pencil skirt & tank

I looooove this skirt.  It’s higher waisted then regular pencil skirts, which is great for my body type since I carry a little extra around my tummy (#alltheicecream). This top was an unlikely pairing, but I used it to try the skirt on in the store and really liked the result – so wallah! I hope you all are having a fabulous week. I gotta say, I’m happy tomorrow is Friday!  We’ve had a ton of rain here in the Tampa Bay area the last couple of days and come Saturday I’ll be ready for some relaxation time next to the pool!

casual post: black tee & printed shorts

I’m going to try and re-organize the blog here in upcoming weeks to make it easier to search for past outfits.  One of the style blogs I follow uses titles similar to the one I have used above.  Since I typically have either “casual” or “work” outfits, I will try and designate the posts into one type or another and see how it goes.  Eventually I would like to create another label at the top of the blog page for each type of outfit.  Hopefully it will help with the organization of the blog. 🙂

Now for the outfit deets. I picked up these shorts awhile back. At first I thought they were too bright.  Then I saw a few other bloggers with them on and thought maybe they were fun.  Then again too bright.  Then I couldn’t stop thinking about them.  Do I have a problem? Maybe.  So I purchased them anyway.  Then I had no idea how to style them.  I tried a white top.  Didn’t like. Tried a yellow top.  Maybe too bright.  So I tried a simple black tee.  Decided it works.  And now you know how getting dressed for me goes about LOL.

pretty dress

Every girl loves a pretty dress that can be dressed up or down, right?  I found one!  This dress is actually on super sale and almost sold out. I hesitated all season because my local GAP did not carry it in store and I wasn’t sure about the print without seeing it in person.  I’m glad I finally gave it a chance!  I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with the fit and feminine flare of this dress.  It covers enough skin to feel safe for work and can be dressed down with nice sandals for date night. They make a plaid version also and I’m really bummed my size is sold out online.  I highly recommend it for fall!  It would look super cute with a cardigan with cooler temps.  I’m definitely going to be checking GAP’s website daily for re-stocks.

(Runs TTS. I’m wearing a size 4 for reference.)

flash sale

I was going to wait til tomorrow to post this dress, until just now Loft sent me an e-mail — they are having a flash sale and it’s on sale + an extra 70% off!

I wore this dress today and got so many compliments!  At least 3 people asked where I purchased it from.  I do recommend going down one size — I’m also wearing a petite.  HAPPY SHOPPING! 🙂

nordstrom anniversary sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale kicked off this morning early!   Right now it’s only available to cardholders through July 16th.  If you are a cardholder, I highly recommend taking a look sooner rather than later as items sell out very quickly.  The sale is targeted at providing deals on what they consider the most covetable items come this fall.
Right now I’ve only picked up a couple of items (shown above). I love so many things they have for sale, but as most of you know we just moved to south Florida.  The weather peeps down here are predicting us to have “warmer than normal” fall.  I’m not quite sure what that means (90s? 80s? 70s?).    Either way, I’m going to hold off on jeans and also long sleeve tops until we get acclimated to fall and winters down here.
But, for all of my midwest family and friends – gobble these deals up! 🙂 My top picks are shown below:

Also, if you’ve been holding off on buying a Kendra Scott necklace because of the cost – nows your chance!  All of the best styles are on sale, including the Rayne and Dylan!

plain white tee

One of the my favorite things to wear to work is a plain t-shirt and nice pencil skirt.  Somehow it just works, especially in a “business casual” environment – and makes it so easy to get dressed in the morning!  A graphic tee works great also with a plain pencil skirt.  This skirt is also on super sale and an extra 50% off.
