Surprise! More printed shorts! Okay, not really a surprise. I love, love, love printed shorts this year. To the point I’ve had to restrain myself because I will search eBay for old-school J. Crew prints and have to think “self, do you really love those?” and thankfully this has worked (so far). I do have many others on my “wish list”, but waiting for the right sale. I mean, we’re moving to south Florida, so it’s justified I collect shorts… right?
I love to pop a little color in a relatively plain outfit. These shoes are perfect for just that (and they come in a bazillion different colors). p.s. it’s the weekend – finally! Happy Friday ya’ll!
Old Navy’s pixie pants are some of my favorite ankle pants year round! I tend to put them away during Jan/Feb here in Ohio because they aren’t the warmest, but their prints are so fun for fall and spring! I only have a couple pairs, but they are so affordable it’s easy to pick them up when good prints come out. They also come in solid colors.
The pants I wore today are from last year, but they have a very similar print out (link below). I find they run true to size and also come in petite and tall lengths.

Since we are moving to a much warmer and humid climate in the near future, I’m trying to be “smart” about my recent purchases (I use that term lightly 😛 ). But really, I’m trying to invest in lighter-weight pieces that I can most definitely start to wear here in Ohio and bring with me to Florida and still be able to use.
This GAP tunic was a no brainer! It’s got a tropical-like pattern, it’s loose, and light-weight. I love that it’s a tunic also! It does run slightly large — I purchased an XS and could have used a size down. However, it’s 100% cotton and although I haven’t washed it yet, I’m crossing my fingers and toes it shrinks down a little. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the tunic runs a little long in the back also, especially for someone who is a midget like myself. Again, hopefully it shrinks!
I recently posted a grey and white polka dot top (blog post here) that I received many requests for! I posted a link to a similar top because I couldn’t find it on Target’s website (I purchased it in store), but alas! They have finally listed it online — along with 2 other pretty colors and also a solid pink color. This is my 4th “crepe shell” from Target and I wear them quite frequently. They are sleeveless and pair great with a cardigan and comfortable for spring/summer. And holla for affordable!
This outfit is my idea of what being comfy and relaxing all day (short of putting on pajama or yoga pants) and still being “dressed” looks like. The top didn’t photo very well, but I swear it’s super soft and comfy! The denim are “boyfriend jeans”, so a relaxed fit without constriction of a normal skinny jean.
So let’s talk about Nordstrom. I didn’t grow up with one nearby, so it wasn’t until the last few years that I really started to notice the wide range and quality of products they carry. I assumed they were like every other high-end department store and I couldn’t afford most items because they were all designer brands. Recently I started purchasing a few items here and there when a sale would occur, or I would see an item another blogger had represented and would try it also. And here lies the beginning of a
addiction new opportunity to explore other brands. 🙂
I’ve purchased 3 pairs of Vigoss brand jeans (carried at other department stores, but I’ve only seen styles I like at Nordsrom) and also purchased a few BP brand tops and Halogen skirts. All very affordable! They also just started carrying a select few items from Madewell — J. Crew’s top line! (not so affordable) So you know I gotta check those out. 🙂
Shown below are some of my top picks for affordable, great quality brands that Nordstrom carries.
Top row: Pleione
Middle row: Halogen
Bottom row: Vigoss
Loving this sweater from Ann Taylor! I’ve been wanting a black and white polka dot pullover sweater for awhile now and finally pulled the plug during a random 60% off flash sale a couple weeks ago.
Ann Taylor is a hard store for me. We don’t have any local stores here in northwest Ohio and their free shipping is somewhat ridiculous — you have to spend $175! And for this college student, that’s rarely going to happen. I justified spending the $8.95 on shipping this time since I got such a great deal on the sweater, but probably won’t happen again for awhile (although when they have sales — they really are good! You can get a lot for $175).
That being said, their quality of clothes is also very good. I notice a big difference between their lower end store, LOFT (which you all know I love! — much more budget friendly!) in the quality of fabrics. We do have an AT in the new Sarasota, FL mall though, so I’m very excited to pick up some classic work pieces when I don’t have to worry about spending money on shipping (such a mind-warp!).
