Casual Look: Striped Sweater

Hi guys!  Back this week with a casual outfit that’s so easy I love it! We took this photo on a cooler day last week and this merino wool sweater was perfect for our weather. Today… I was sweating again. In a t-shirt. 😝 Gah. But it’s getting cooler finally and our mornings are lovely, so I need not complain as I know a lot of you are fighting the snow already! If I was back home in Indiana I would wear this sweater with a silk-like (poly hello… lol) shirt underneath. So if someone could put a black with white polka dot shirt on under the sweater, let me know how it turns out because in my brain it turns out pretty awesome.  😆

Spring in Fall

Hi everyone! Today’s outfit post is a flatlay come to life – that was at the top of my “Friday Flatlay” roundup last week! I love bringing these outfits to life. More often than not I throw a flatlay together as soon as I’ve decided to keep a piece in my closet (I would never show you guys an item I don’t intend on keeping. Not to call other bloggers out, because I don’t know for a fact that they do this – but I’ve read recently on other posts that a lot of bloggers buy things only to return and “shill” their finds. I write here to provide inspiration to you guys via clothes, new trends, new ideas, etc. but if I felt an item wasn’t worthy of keeping – I wouldn’t buy it in the first place lol! Ok rant wheel over. 🙂 Just had to get that out ha! ). So I usually put the flatlay together, jot down a couple outfit ideas if I have more than one for a piece – but sometimes I do have to slightly alter the outfit.

One example would be the black & white v-neck sweater shown last week in a flatlay. I love the sweater, but it fit a little shorter than expected with those jeans, so I would adjust to either high waisted jeans or tuck into a skirt. And that’s just because I carry my weight in the middle, not that the sweater is that short. I just prefer to cover up all the cookies and ice cream I’m addicted to. 😝

So anyway, this outfit actually came out just fine! I switched my jeans out only because the jeans in the flatlay were in the laundry, and I grabbed my new Sole Society bag (love!) – but other than that my vision worked out as planned! Yay!

And no lie – I was sweating during this photo – but, Florida is supposed to finally have a cool down this week. Lows in the 40s/50s and hi around 70. That’s sweater weather for this girl! The crappy part is, it usually only lasts like a day or two and then warms up again. So I have to play eenie-meenie-miney-mo on what sweater I want to pick to wear. 😝

However, this is a great sweater. It’s a little longer like a tunic, merino wool so not all itchy, but keeps you warm also. Comes in a ton of colors, but I was instantly drawn to this aqua color. It’s also 40% off. 🙂 No code or card needed. With all the fall color tones out right now, it was nice to throw on something a little less “moody” – hence the name for today’s post – “Spring in Fall.”

Those Snakeskin Mules

Ahh, these mules. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know the whole story. If not – I’ll give you the quick run down. I purchased them originally (online) from Macy’s. They shipped from a store in Massachusetts, and arrived used on the soles… and not only used, the person who previously owned them ripped off one of the beads and stuck it in the top sole of one of the mules. They were shipped to me exactly this way. In a box without tissue paper or stuffing, so you could blatantly see the damage. I was mad of course, but honestly just had to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. It’s a dark day in customer service friends.

Macy's bad customer service, used shoes from Macy's

I think the worst part of it all was that no one cared. I called Macy’s 1-800 customer service line right away and explained the issue with the girl there… after listening to me, she goes “so, you want to return the shoes”? 🙄

She processed the return right away, but that was it. They have a “texting” customer service line, so I did send them pictures. They seemed slightly more concerned and at least apologized. They forwarded my information onto the manager at the Massachusetts store, whom did call me and leave a message while I was at work. I tried calling her back twice, but it was a huge roundabout and couldn’t get a hold of her. I gave up at that point. Not worth my time.

I did re-order the shoes (on my own dime) and they did come perfectly the second time thankfully. From a store in Miami no doubt!

So after all that, I ended up loving the mules thankfully! And as much as I don’t want to link money to Macy’s right now, these mules are on a great sale (maybe I should return mine for a better price 😝. jk!) If you use code ‘EVENT’ they are only $30! (originally $70). They also make a non-beaded version (not on sale).

Free People South Side thermal, Joe's Icon Skinny Ankle Jeans, Merona bag, Steve Madden snakeskin mules

This post was supposed to be centered around this beautiful thermal top above, not the mules LOL! It comes in a bajillion colors and it’s one that I think you can get away, with or without a bralette (or strapless bra). I’m actually wearing my normal beige (demi) bra underneath, but I adjusted the straps out a little farther. It works for me and is more comfortable then strapless. I think I’ve posted before – if I want to wear a bralette out and about (versus just hanging out at home), I would wear my regular bra and put the bralette over top. It’s about the same comfort level as a camisole for me.

I did go down one size on the top. I normally take an XS in Free People clothing and that’s what I’m wearing here (I’m normally a size small in most brands).

The top has somewhat of an elastic band at the bottom. I have it pulled down here in the photo to show length, but it could easily be tucked in front or allowed to roll up underneath itself which I actually would probably do most often.

Fall Look: Florida

Well, we had a good few days of nice, crisp, Fall weather down here in the Sunshine state… and then just like that Mother Nature said “nope” and took it all away. 😝 We took this photo during one of those mornings and it really was a perfect outfit. However, no matter where you live I really recommend this cardigan – it’s the perfect layering piece whether over a tank or long sleeve tee. It’s chunky, over-sized, and a waffle knit so won’t make you too hot. Whenever (if) we finally get cooler weather, I will definitely  layer this cardigan over a long sleeve tee, and add a scarf if needed (if I need a coat it means we are dying 😂😂).

Right now my tank and cardigan are both 20% off online only! Free 2-day shipping if you have ShopRunner, or normal free shipping with a store card.

Fall Work Look: Plaid Skirt

This is one of those outfits that I wasn’t really sure about, but decided to post anyway. This skirt is really versatile and can pair easily with about any color. I wanted to create a “different but neutral” look, and went with different shades of brown. The camel was an easy pick, but then I had to decide if I wanted to play it really safe and go with black pumps and a black bag…. or have a little fun and go with cognac toned leopard pumps and cognac bag. I had the black pumps on, walking out the door, and last second chose the fun/less comfortable option!

If you’ve been reading style blogs for awhile, you might remember Tara K who wrote Mix & Match Fashion (later known as The Mix blog) – she hasn’t written in about 2 years (so sad also, she was one of my favorites!), but her motto was always “work doesn’t mean boring.” I loved that. She always chose the less safe route, and mixed her colors and prints beautifully. Not that I’m wearing a lot of color – I wanted neutrals – but even pairing a combination of neutrals can be challenging.

Those Tiny Florals

I remember talking about tiny florals versus large florals on the blog awhile back. They both are pretty popular right now in the fashion world. I’m drawn to the large floral patterns I think more-so (my favorite is this shirt from Express), however the tiny floral print in today’s post is a new favorite also! I wore this shirt pretty relaxed here. It features tie bell sleeves and a v-neck not so uncomfortable I needed a camisole. I played around with a half-tuck in the front but decided I liked it better just left undone. If you look at the stock picture, the model has the sleeves tied up higher. I’m not sure if that’s because she’s got a lot longer arms then me, but I was afraid to mess with the ties on the sleeves and not be able to get them back where they started – so I left them! But I’m thinking they can be tightened to create more of a “ruched” look. Maybe I’ll play around with that on the next post. 🙂

Lazy Day

Just wanted to pop in for a quick #ootd! Today has been a lazy, lazy day. Thinking of everyone that might read my blog that is in the path of hurricane Michael. It’s been on my news all day – after Irma last year, I feel like I’m right there with you – and we evacuated! The ‘not knowing’ is the worst.  The aftermath. The “what will I come home to?”…. or if you stayed, “what happens when it’s here”? Ugh. We live far south of the path of the hurricane, but have had ‘feeder bands’ of rain and wind blow through all day. It feels like a weird warm fall day back in Indiana lol. Breezy, cloudy, and meh. So I got dressed. In the outfit below. And went to Target and Starbucks. Basic and I loved it. 😆
