Work Style: Lacy Ruffle Sleeve Top + Life update!

Life update: Skip below if you’re only here for the outfit. 🙂

Hi friends! I have quite the announcement today! I’ve given notice to my current employer after accepting a work from home position with an insurance company! If you know me personally, I have worked in retail pharmacy for 16 years. I started from the ground up as a technician, worked into a lead tech role, then intern, and now for the last 6 years I’ve been a retail pharmacist. And honestly… I’m tired. Real tired. You know us retail folk always joke about finding new jobs, we have bad days and say “I can’t do this anymore!”… but we always did. We fight change… and then embrace it. Or maybe conform? But we prevail.

However, Covid really changed things for me. My current employer shortened store hours and put a lot of safety mechanisms in place. They removed metrics that we knew couldn’t be achievable during the pandemic and things honestly improved. The vaccinations initially were crazy, but again – we prevailed. And then the pandemic improved, and the announcement was made that we were returning to normal store hours meaning the pharmacists were back to working 12-13 hour shifts alone. Temporary raises ended. Metrics were put back in place. And the biggest blow of all – our bonuses will likely be ending.

I had already been looking at work from home positions for awhile, but after working a few of those 12 hour shifts, I could just tell. It was time. I was ready for a change. And I put my fighting gloves on haha! I say that, because the pharmacist job market is very saturated. There are far more pharmacists graduating each year than jobs available. And while I’ve stuck it out for as long as I could in the retail business, many others had already given up long ago and either switched careers or got lucky and found a different job.

I feel very lucky. I applied and applied and applied for jobs. I received a few tips and tricks from other pharmacist friends, which helped me get noticed – and received quite a few screening interviews. However, if you aren’t at the front of the line, you won’t get the prize – I learned that real fast! I heard over and over, “we will hold onto your resume, and enjoyed speaking with you today – but the job was already filled” – each job has over 100 applicants!

I started googling jobs (I gave up using LinkedIn, ZipRecruter, Indeed, etc). First thing every morning, afternoon, and evening. I would sort by time listed. And caught a job listing 4 minutes after it was posted! I immediately applied – and got an immediate call back! I interviewed this past Monday and was hired right after. Talk about luck, but also a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I guess the whole reason for sharing this story, is I know some of you may be in your own job rut no matter what your career choice – and I’m here to say – don’t give up! Keep improving your resume, cover letter, change wording, and I think honestly when I got that call back – these recruiters must hear how much I want to hug them through the phone haha! And I guess it helped. 🙂

So, work from home – how will that change my blogging? Honestly, I have no idea! I don’t start my new job until mid-September. I imagine we will have video conferences quite frequently? Thus, I’m guessing my outfits really won’t change entirely too much. Honestly, this job may compliment blogging even more because I’ll be sitting down at a desk, and will likely wear more dresses, dressy shorts, skirts, etc to stay comfortable and still feel dressed up. I currently wear jeans and sneakers at my current job most often because of standing on my feet all day. Which isn’t very bloggable and why I struggle sometimes finding new outfits that are worth posting!

I know the whole trend last year was ‘lounge wear’ for WFH jobs, but even if I was never on video for the day and no one ever knew what I was wearing, I would still get dressed to some degree. I’m one of those people that if I’m too comfy, I’ll end up on the couch and unmotivated versus getting stuff done lol. So we will see! I’ll keep you all posted. Crazy I don’t start for 5 weeks!

Outfit post:

Well, after all that – here is a new outfit! My top is another new arrival from LOFT. I guess maybe this outfit will also be a frequent flyer for my new job! Jeans included!

This top is just a really pretty pre-fall transition. I love the lacy detail, ruffle sleeves, and the print in a rust + olive green hue. My jeans are an older pair of Wit & Wisdom jeans – and why would these work great for a WFH job? These are the jeans with the magic waistband! I think it’s similar to maternity paneling. Whatever it is – it’s great and so comfy! I’ll link a similar pair below.

My top fits TTS.
