size tip: go down one size (I’m wearing an XS)
Happy Friday! I’ve been a little slow getting back into the swing of the blog this week. Tomorrow is our last day of vacation and trying to stay in the present and not hooked to my computer screen. I actually took this photo last week before vacation started and it never made it to my #ootd roundup, so I figured today would be a good day to post! Nothing too special with my outfit, but a color combination that has always been a fall & winter favorite.
Black, olive, and cognac are always a great neutral combination, and I love adding a pop of red. And of course a little leopard is always a good idea. ☺️
Today I wanted to feature this incredibly soft cable knit sweater. You know how cable knit sweaters are all the rage every year, but tend to be a stiffer material that really isn’t that comfortable? Perfect for layering I suppose, but what if you just want to wear the sweater without the layering? And who wants to put a sweater on that requires a struggle because of how stiff it is! Well, I purchased my first cable knit sweater since we’ve moved down south friends!
This sweater is super soft, stretchy, comfy, no itch, and full price only $37 (today on sale for $30… $26 with a store card!) , and comes in 5 colors! I can’t do a lot of layering down south most days, so wearing it alone on cool days, or maybe with a lightweight tee underneath is perfect. I chose this lightweight gingham shirt for the flatlay, but any button down would work (chambray would be perfect!).
If you look closely, the white color does have a somewhat asymmetrical pattern. I actually really liked it because it’s ‘different’, but I know that’s not for everyone. All of the other colors options are a normal rib print. I picked up a size small in the sweater which fits perfectly weather wearing alone or for layering. Booties, shirt, and jeans all fit tts.
*size tip: I’m 5’2″, ~130 lb. and normally wear an XS/S in tops or 28/6P on bottom
Hi friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I spent the morning and afternoon with the in-laws. My dad and stepmom usually come down for half the year (they have a villa near us and are ‘snowbirds’ as we call them in Florida lol), but my dad recently had surgery and they won’t be down for a month or so while he heals. Holidays are always strange for us this time of year. We always went to my grandparents house back in Indiana (or multiple grandparents after my husband and I married) and ended up at a friend’s house later in the evening. Maybe it’s that we feel a little lonely. Certainly nostalgic. I hate the snow, but also miss the cold weather for a couple weeks anyway right around Christmas. 🙂
So, I thought I’d kick off the first day after Christmas with a big sale! It’s that time of year where stores want to get rid of alll of their winter items and make room for spring clothes! True spring clothes won’t start to hit stores til February, but you’ll see a lot of lighter prints and color start to trickle in soon. One of my favorite sales of the year is the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale. It’s a little different from the Anniversary Sale in July – you won’t see ‘made for sale’ items really pop up, but more so regular brands marked down to make room for new items. The sale starts today and goes through January 2nd.
I made a ‘Look’ of my favorite brands on sale below! I tried to pick items out that work now for winter, but have a ‘spring’ hue. Because, red and green are headed out the door – it’s time for mints, pale pinks, baby blues and the like! 😍
I’m taking a few days off from the blog to rest, recoup (from work… not the blog lol!), and spend time with friends & family (and fur babies!) ~ I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday! See you in a few days! ❤️
Today’s outfit is actually a flatlay come to life from a couple weeks ago! I switched out the necklace from the red earrings, but otherwise everything else is the same. Funny story. I think I mentioned weeks, maybe a couple months ago, that “we don’t wear tights in Florida.” I think I might fully retract that statement. 😂 While we mostly still have hi temps in the 70s, we certainly are getting our fair share of cooler weather with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s – maybe my skin has just thinned too much down here, but those temps for are good enough for tights in my book lol! I actually think I’m going to pick some up this week as I really thought I’d be wearing more skirts this winter, but every time I try my legs are freezing! So, imagine this outfit with tights on ha!
Back to the outfit – camel & black is one of my favorite “dress up and go” looks. You know I love leopard, so a nice trendy scarf completes the outfit. J.Crew Factory is one of my favorite places to pick up wool skirts. This was my one wool skirt purchase this season so far, so I apologize if you get sick of it. ☺️ I used to buy their pencil skirt versions every year, but just can’t justify wearing those anymore, especially with how busy work has been lately. I gotta be able to run (literally, ugh).
My sweater is one of the most versatile pieces I own. It’s a little fitted, but not in that uncomfortable way that I wouldn’t wear it with jeans or pants also. It’s just so easy to tuck into skirts, comes in a bazillion colors also, that I buy one every year to pair with my wool skirts.
As much as I love that new CeCe top I featured on the blog yesterday, I still have a strong love for LOFT tops also! Equally as chic & trendy, LOFT really does make some of the most versatile and long-lasting items for your closet. I have countless shirts (and skirts & pants for that matter) in my closet from years ago past. This pretty ruffle top is no exception. This top is a little more dressy then the one I wore from CeCe yesterday, but I still plan to wear with a nice pair of skinny jeans. It is pretty lightweight, so for all you snowbirds (and honestly for us right now also! Ack!), a nice cardigan will be necessary. However, it’s the prefect light pink for spring and definitely a ‘carry you through the season’ type of shirt.
I’m wearing a regular small here. Sometimes LOFT sizes fit me funny. I’m a normal size small, but usually regular XS fits me better. I go for petite sizing when possible. I loved the length of the regular size on this top though so I kept it as it. You can front tuck or leave un-done and I like it both ways.
*size tip: I’m 5’2″ and ~130 lb. and normally wear an XS/S on top and 28/6P on bottom.
I wanted to kick this week off with a new clothing brand (to me)! The blouse I’m wearing is by a brand called “CeCe.” I’ve only really seen the name at Nordstrom, but noticed both Macy’s and Dillards carry it also. I guess CeCe must be a department store brand then? I’m not sure, but after looking at all of “her” items, I fell in love with it! The line is reasonably affordable (I would compare to Ann Taylor pricing or maybe Halogen at Nordstrom). I really liked that all the items are not only somewhat trendy, but classy also. Since my workplace changed our dress code a few months ago to “business casual”, I’ve been looking for tops that somewhat go with everything; whether jeans or skirt, or even on the weekend, I can make it work. I used to have a “work closet” and “casual closet” and now I really need to mesh everything together. I still have casual tank tops and Free People tops I know I’ll never wear to work, but I want those items to stay few and far between.
So this is my first top by CeCe and I really like it! It runs tts and ever though the sleeves are puffed, they are not too tight. They actually fit perfectly. Definitely a nice surprise. I ordered this top from Nordstrom (free shipping + free returns), but it’s also available at Macy’s here. See the bottom of the post for my top 3 CeCe tops on my wish list!
I also have a new pair of jeans on! They were my Christmas present to myself. 🙂 I don’t buy premium often, but these jeans are butter and I know I’ll wear them all the time. They fit tts.
Size tip: I’m 5’2″ and ~130 lb. and normally wear a size XS/S on top and 28/6P on bottom.
